Hamels Mansion, Buntingford

Grade II Listed building conversion to apartments - external view.

We were appointed by the client to provide Quantity Surveying Services for the residential conversion and refurbishment of this beautiful and historic Grade II Listed property, Hamels Mansion, Buntingford in Hertfordshire. The property had been  converted un-sympathetically into offices in the 1970’s. The project was to convert the building back into residential use by constructing 10 Nr one- and two-bedroom luxury apartments, and restoring some buildings features and former grandeur.

Our Quantity Surveyor was fully involved from the initial design stages, through tender procurement, and construction phases, undertaking valuations and cost reporting.

The project was procured using a two-stage tender process. Following some final design confirmation and value engineering. A Family run Essex based Contractor was appointed to the project, who were experienced and familiar with working on historic and listed buildings. The project started on site in September 2016 and was completed in September 2017.

Our Project Quantity Surveyor worked closely with the Project Manager making regular visits to site, and attending site meetings. On these occasions reviewing progress to confirm the main contractor, subcontractors and specialists were working as a team in timely manner in line with the master programme.  Also, along the way ensuring any issues / problems raised were dealt with speedily.
